We are management and project delivery consultants who specialise in community sport and leisure.

We provide specialist advice and support to schools, multi-academy trusts, community and professional sport clubs, town and parish councils, local authorities, community leisure trusts, active partnerships and national governing bodies of sport.

SJ SLC is firmly established as a leading South West independent specialist community sport and leisure advisor with a reputation for quality, integrity and innovation.
Our dedicated team undertake feasibility studies for all types and combinations of community sport and leisure facilities.
We are instrumental in the planning, design, funding, delivery, and management of community sport and leisure facilities and programmes. With a wealth of industry knowledge, we can oversee every stage of a project.
We bring leadership, learning and connections, creating and sharing best practice in strategic planning, community engagement, funding and project management.
Our History
SJ SLC was established by Steve Joel in 2020. Prior to SJ SLC, Steve had a wide-ranging 30-year career within the public and private sector developing a hard-earned reputation delivering successful outcomes in the development and management of sport, leisure and culture provision at all levels – from high performance sport programmes for government agencies and national governing bodies; to art, health and community sport development within local government; and, to providing an inspiring student sport offer within higher education.
Steve wanted to provide the community sport and leisure sector with support, approaches and advice to optimise and accelerate the delivery of projects, and impact they have on communities.
Steve wanted to provide better value solutions for clients.
Since its inception, SJ SLC has grown year on year with a passionate team of highly qualified, experienced and respected associate consultants and partners.
This network of dedicated and innovative associates can support every stage of a project.
Over 40 projects have been successfully delivered since 2020 and SJ SLC now supports over 15 projects per annum.

In addition, we are committed to supporting local good causes and community sports organisations. Examples include supporting the County Table Tennis Association Funding and Facilities Advisory Group, and the Take Art Board to bring joy, support, entertainment and inspiration to the villages, towns and rural communities in Somerset.
